About the Founder
Hi there. My name is Michelle and I am the founder of Radiance.
Firstly, I am a Mother of two, including a very energetic three year old who has changed my world in every sense. Having worked with children for around 15 years, in various settings and roles I decided to set up this business whilst on maternity leave and have never looked back!
My Qualifications
I am a qualified primary school teacher and most recently have worked as a teacher for children with Autism.
I have a BSc Hons Degree in Psychology which has provided me with a high level scientific background of child development, including mental health and emotions and obstacles and interruptions to these.
I am a level 3 qualified Yoga teacher for children aged 5-16year olds.
My Experience
I have taught in a number of schools in Wiltshire and London across Primary age groups. I have worked in various family support roles, including as a Specialist Intervention Worker where I designed and delivered interventions for parenting skills and for children who were at risk or vulnerable. I have also worked with children who were DeafBlind in the community and at school. I have provided respite care for children with a range of special needs, including mental health needs and provided emergency support for families at the point of breakdown.
Throughout these roles I have attended training courses and implemented a range of strategies to improve mental health and mindfulness.
These include but are not limited to:
Lego Therapy
Meditation
Peer Massage
Breathing techniques
Talking therapies
Emotions family work
Yoga.
My Motivation
It was whilst working with children with ASD that I finally got the idea for starting Radiance. I’ve always been a huge advocate of promoting children’s wellbeing and in this role, it all came to the forefront. Teaching a specialised curriculum, gave me the opportunity to add social skills, life skills, relaxation, and feelings and emotions work, including managing anxiety lessons. This led to a huge change in behaviour. The children began to manage lesson and play times better, and improve their friendships. The activities brought a sense of peace to their days and gave an opportunity to re-regulate.
Noticing how much the children benefitted from these extra curriculum activities, I wondered why I couldn’t do these more. These seemed so important to me, perhaps more than the mainstream education. If a child does not feel safe and happy, they can not learn.
This feeling is what started the idea of Radiance. I want to give all children the opportunities and time to improve their own mental wellbeing.
About the Company
Have you ever thought about your child’s mental health? You may not have used that term but I bet you have thought about it almost every day since they were born. Are they happy? How can I help them manage their big emotions? Why aren’t they sleeping well?
Radiance was born from a desire to help children be happier, healthier and more in tune with their emotions. I have had many years of first hand experience of seeing the impact of compromised mental health and developed many strategies to support and improve this. This is what I want to share with you.
We offer classes for children that centre around Yoga and understanding emotions. We also provide training for parents to help them gain skills to support their child’s mental wellbeing.
All of our services are suitable for children with special needs and we provide classes and interventions for schools and children’s groups.
